July 29 is Going To Be a Sad Day for Xbox 360 Fans

Highlights

  • Xbox 360 digital storefront to shut down on July 29, impacting 59 exclusive digital games.
  • Many games have physical variants or will be available on other platforms, but some are exclusive and may be lost forever.
  • Massive discounts on Xbox 360 games and other digital content available before storefront shuts down.

Monday, July 29 is going to be a sad day for Xbox 360 fans because that’s the day that the console’s digital storefront will shut down. The Xbox 360 was a pioneer when it comes to digital gaming, with its Xbox Live Arcade venture paving the way for the comprehensive digital storefronts that console gamers enjoy today. Digital games offer a level of convenience that physical games do not, but an unfortunate reality of digital titles is that they run the risk of becoming lost to time as players move on to new platforms and storefronts inevitably close down.

The Xbox 360 storefront has been available since 2005, but it will be shut down on July 25. Gamers have had 19 years to buy whatever digital Xbox 360 titles they want, but it’s still upsetting to see it shut down and so many games potentially lost to the void. Luckily, many of the games available on Xbox 360 have physical variants or will be available on other storefronts even after the Xbox 360 marketplace shuts down, but there are 59 Xbox 360 exclusive digital games that will be lost forever (barring any unexpected ports, of course) come July 29.

Cult Classic Xbox 360 Game Remaster May Be Getting a Reveal Soon

A long-awaited remaster of a cult classic game from the Xbox 360/PS3 generation could be getting a full reveal in the near future.

Most of the digital Xbox 360 exclusives are not games that are all that particularly well-known, but there are some standouts that gamers may want to secure before the storefront shuts its doors, like the South Park games that were never released elsewhere. One game that’s technically not an Xbox 360 exclusive, Wik and the Fable of Souls, was removed from Steam long ago and will be next to impossible to acquire once the store shuts down, so fans may want to check that out as well.

There are massive discounts on various Xbox 360 games right now, with some titles marked down by a staggering 90%. Anyone interested in getting more digital Xbox 360 games should boot up their consoles and check out the deals ASAP.

While the Xbox 360 digital exclusives are what most gamers will want to prioritize, there are other things to consider when making one’s final digital 360 purchases. For example, gamers may want to look into buying DLC for their favorite Xbox 360 games, not to mention digital versions of games that have had physical releases. After all, there are some massive Xbox 360 game sales going on right now that will help gamers better-complete their digital 360 collection without breaking the bank. There are some original Xbox games on the 360 that have digital versions available in the marketplace and are worth a look as well.

It’s worth pointing out that all the backward compatible Xbox 360 games will remain available to purchase on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Gamers will also be able to download any of their purchases even after the store closes. Regardless, it’s always sad to see a shutdown of this magnitude, even if the vast majority of gamers moved on from the Xbox 360 long ago.
