Jaylen Brown Posts Cryptic Message After Derrick White Replaces Kawhi on Team USA

After Derrick White was selected to replace the injured Kawhi Leonard on the Team USA men’s basketball team for the Paris Olympics, Jaylen Brown appeared to have an interesting reaction.

Brown posted three emojis with the monocle over the eye following Wednesday’s news:

Brown and White were both in the initial 41-player pool for Team USA. Brown was believed to be in the running for the final roster spot but was passed over in favor of Leonard. White is now the third member of the Boston Celtics to be selected to Team USA, joining Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday.

Brown is coming off a stellar postseason run in which he was named Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP after leading the Celtics to their 18th championship in franchise history. During the playoffs, he averaged 23.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.2 steals while shooting 51.6 percent from the field.

While many thought Brown was the logical choice, White is no slouch himself. He earned All-Defensive second-team honors in each of the last two years and provides Team USA with a strong defensive presence in the backcourt as well as another facilitator to open things up for star players LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Joel Embiid.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, White is expected to join Team USA this weekend in Abu Dhabi, one of the two international stops for the team before it arrives in France for the Olympics later this month.
