‘Jackass’ Star Bam Margera Pleads Guilty To Disorderly Conduct Charge
Bam Margera, the former star of Jackass, pled guilty to two counts of disorderly conduct charges Wednesday over an altercation at his home near Philadelphia.
The plea was made just before his trial was to start. He will spend six months on probation on the charges and will be subject to random drug testing.
Margera, 44, was charged with assaulting his brother and making threats to other family members. The incidents took place during a two-week visit last year.
At a hearing last year, Margera told the judge he was getting drug and alcohol treatment.
Jess Margera called his brother “a good dude when he’s not messed up.” He added that his brother had been awake for days while home, then had a fight with his brother. Jess Margera suffered a ruptured eardrum, while Margera’s girlfriend called police when he kicked in her bedroom door, the brother testified.
Defense lawyer William J. Brennan said Margera pleaded guilty to two summary offenses, and is now clean and sober.
“You can really say he won his case before today just by turning his life around,” Brennan said Wednesday.
Margera acknowledged his prior condition outside the courthouse.
“I needed that to realize I would go on drinking benders and I would end up in situations that were really not good,” Margera said.
August 1 will mark his one year anniversary of sobriety, he added
“Now that I’ve done this amount of time, I don’t want to go back to that lifestyle,” he said.
