iPhone 16 Pro To Reportedly Feature A 5x Tetraprism Periscope Zoom Lens Like The iPhone 15 Pro Max, No Word On The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s Hardware Changes
Apple has been reported to add another supply chain partner to its list as it requires the extra workforce to supply the periscope zoom lens for both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. At the time of reporting, it was unclear if the upcoming flagships would be treated to a tetraprism lens with a higher zoom level, but according to the latest update, the smaller iPhone 16 Pro is said to feature a 5x lens, making the handset unchanged from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, assuming we compare these specifications on paper.
iPhone 16 Pro Max was previously rumored to receive a telephoto camera upgrade, with both models reportedly sporting an improved lens
To remind you, the iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 5x optical zoom and a 25x digital zoom, with 9to5Mac spotting vital information from DigiTimes’ report, stating that the iPhone 16 Pro will also feature these specifications. If you noticed, there is no mention of the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max in this report, hinting that the bigger flagship could one-up the iPhone 15 Pro Max in lens specifications. In fact, an earlier rumor even claimed that this particular model would be equipped with an exclusive ‘super telephoto’ unit that would help Apple differentiate it from the iPhone 16 Pro.
Also, it is not like the exact iPhone 15 Pro Max tetraprism camera would be ported to the iPhone 16 Pro, assuming that is what Apple has in mind. Earlier, we talked about both upcoming flagships getting treated to camera lenses with improved specifications that would cost Apple more but would elevate the image and video-capturing experience for users. In short, just because the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a 5x camera does not necessarily mean that this unit will deliver the same image quality as the older iPhone 15 Pro Max.
At this time, there is no way to tell if Apple would charge consumers a premium to use the 5x camera upgrade on the iPhone 16 Pro. If the price is retained at $999, just like the iPhone 15 Pro, we do not see why the smaller ‘Pro’ version may not become the favorite amongst the masses.
