Indonesian Police Uncover International Online Gambling Ring, Taiwanese Fugitive Sought

Jakarta. The Criminal Investigation Department of the Indonesian National Police has uncovered an international online gambling and pornography network with a total transactions of Rp 500 billion ($30,700). Eight individuals, including a Taiwanese, have been named as suspects in the case.

Djuhandhani Rahardjo, Director of General Crime at the National Police, said that the network operated across six provinces in Indonesia from December 2023 to April 2024. The network also had servers in Taiwan and an operational office in Karawaci, Tangerang, Banten.

“This network frequently changed domains to disguise its content, whether it was online gambling or pornography,” said Djuhandhani during a press conference on Monday.

The evidence seized includes 14 mobile phones, two laptops, and 16 live-streaming equipment sets.

Djuhandhani added that the operation was controlled by a Taiwanese national identified only as K, who has been declared a fugitive and placed on the wanted list.

“K employed Indonesian nationals as part of the syndicate. Each had different roles, including administrators, account providers, telemarketers, and customer service personnel,” he explained.

The eight suspects face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and fines of up to Rp 10 billion.
