Independence Health looks to fill 500 open positions at job fair

Independence Health System will hold a job fair on Thursday to address more than 500 openings at multiple locations across the health system.

In the Westmoreland area, recruiters will be available from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the center court in Westmoreland Mall, located at 5256 Route 30 in Hempfield.

On-site interviews will be conducted for some positions in both clinical and non-clinical areas, according to a statement from the health system.

Interested applicants can apply to jobs through the health system’s online portal before they attend the fair, but advance application is not mandatory to attend, said Heidi Henckel, manager of talent acquisition at Independence Health System.

This is the second job fair that Independence Health has held since its formation from the merger of Excela Health and Butler Health System in January of last year.

“We are looking for anything, from someone without a high school diploma to a high school level diploma to masters-level positions — a gamut of educational levels,” said Henckel. “Everything that we have posted out there on our career site, we will be there to talk to people about.”

Entry-level up through manager-director-level positions are available, in clinical and non-clinical settings, she said. Openings include roles in food services, environmental services, medical assistants for doctors’ offices, nurses and nursing assistants for the hospitals, radiology techs, phlebotomists and respiratory therapists.

Upon attending the fair, those interested will go through a general screening and fill out a questionnaire to determine what their interests are. They will then be connected with a recruiter in those areas to discuss potential positions. If they’ve already applied, there will be opportunities to connect with managers and schedule follow-up conversations.

People who have already applied would be able to have a 1-on-1 conversation with a recruiter to talk about the position they applied to, Henckel said, and any other potential positions that might be a match for them.

The event also provides applicants with more information about what opportunities are available.

“We essentially open it up to anybody who wants to talk about what we offer, what’s great about working for us, and also what opportunities exist for backgrounds that they have,” she said. “Sometimes people may not understand a job posting or just want to know more before they apply. We open it up to getting to know more about Independence Health, and the openings and opportunities that we are offering at this time.”

In Butler, the HR team will be available from noon to 4 p.m. at Butler Memorial Hospital on One Hospital Way in the tower lobby. In Clarion, recruiters will meet applicants from noon to 4 p.m. in the board room of Clarion Hospital at One Hospital Drive.

Individuals seeking additional information or unable to attend the event can view open positions at www.independence.health/careers.
