In addition to Jim Schlossnagle, UT hires entire Texas A&M baseball coaching staff

New Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle won’t be making the move from College Station to Austin alone.

Texas announced late on Tuesday night that Schlossnagle’s coaching staff at Texas A&M will join him at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Nolan Cain will be an associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. Assistant coaches Max Weiner and Michael Earley will respectively instruct the pitching and hitting at Texas.

Cain and Earley worked with Schlossnagle during the entirety of his three-year tenure at Texas A&M. Weiner joined the Aggies this past season after working from 2019-23 as the Seattle Mariners’ pitching coordinator.

During the 2024 baseball season, Schlossnagle and his coaching staff helped lead Texas A&M to a 53-15 record and an appearance in the College World Series’ championship series. Texas A&M’s 3.86 ERA ranked fourth nationally, and the Aggies produced a nation-leading 12 shutouts. Only 22 teams scored more often than the Aggies, who averaged 8.5 runs per game.

On the other hand, Texas’ 4.91 ERA ranked 47th nationally and was its worst mark since 1999. The Longhorns did hit the 18th-most homers in college baseball, but their average of 7.1 runs per game ranked 111th among the 295 Division I teams.

Terms of the new deals that Schlossnagle and his assistant coaches will receive were not immediately available. Schlossnagle’s introductory press conference at Texas will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
