I canceled my Planet Fitness membership after ‘gym attire’ got me kicked out

A FORMER Planet Fitness customer has canceled their membership with the gym.

The decision comes after the former member was kicked out for his “gym attire” but other members were unsurprised when they read his Facebook post.

Tupelo resident Darren Hitchcock, a long-time member of Planet Fitness, recently took to social media to express his frustration after being ejected from the gym for wearing slides.

In his Facebook post, Hitchcock detailed his surprise and disappointment, explaining that he had never encountered issues with gym attire until now.

“I have been a member of Planet Fitness in Tupelo since they opened and have never had any issues with gym attire,” Hitchcock wrote.

“Today, I was kicked out for wearing slides. I have canceled my membership and will never return. What. A. Joke.”

Many commenters shared similar experiences and voiced their support for Hitchcock.

“For some reason, I am not surprised by this,” said one person.

“Kicked you out? For slides??” one commenter noted.

“Well they would probably have a problem with me wearing just a sports bra huh?”

Another person shared their positive experience with another local gym, “Yep! Been going to Premier Athletix for a while now.”

“Good atmosphere there, and I’m sure they could care less about your toes showing,” they added.

One individual recounted their own experience, “Yeah I got kicked out years ago cause they said I had to wear a t-shirt and not a workout tank. I left and never went back.”

Hitchcock’s frustration led him to cancel his Planet Fitness membership and endorse another local gym, Premiere Fitness, as a better alternative.

In an update to his original post, he added, “More reason why Premiere Fitness is the place to be.”

MEMBERSHIP PRICES INCREASE

Planet Fitness has increased its prices in a move that took place for the first time in two decades.

Those with a Classic Card membership saw a five-dollar increase, meaning you’ll be paying $15 rather than the original $10.

Classic Card members are only allowed to go to the location they have their subscription for and cannot bring a guest, while the Black Card lets them bring a guest and allows access to any Planet Fitness.

“It is not going to come as a shock to anybody that we are moving a price that’s been in effect for a long, long time, 25 years,” CEO Craig Benson said about the bump when it was first announced.

“We think this is the right time to do it.”

He added that it remains uncertain for now that the Black Card membership will also see an increase.

Thomas Fitzgerald, the chief financial officer of Planet Fitness, emphasized that existing Classic Card members would be grandfathered into the price change.

This means that those who are currently paying $10 per month will continue to do so.

However, new members will face the increased fee of $15.

Benson did not specify an exact date when the new prices will be implemented at Planet Fitness.

Costco has also raised prices on memberships for first time in years.

Plus, Sam’s Club has shoppers angry over a price increase.
