Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation fashion show to fund ‘out of the box’ research

On Thursday, June 20, The Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation will host its 3rd annual fashion show fundraiser, “The Secret Garden Fashion Show,” in the Cancer Survivors’ Garden at Maggie Daley Park. The show will be produced by ZZAZZ Productions and feature designs by some of the city’s top retailers and designers.

The event, co-chaired by Janell Adames, Pam Capitanini and Jacquelyn Petrovich, will begin with cocktails and hors d’ouevres at 5:30, dinner at 6:30 and the show at 7:15. Emcees will be Kelly Flanagan and Candace Jordan.

The Hippocratic Cancer Research Foundation is a nonprofit that supports “out of the box” cancer research.  Dr. Leonidas Platanias, director of the Lurie Cancer Research Center of Northwestern University, spoke passionately about eradicating cancer and posed the question, “Why is cancer still here?” He explained, “Cancer goes back to ancient times. It’s been around for thousands of years, and during that time, unfortunately, cancer cells have become smarter and smarter. But so have we. We now have technologies and weapons we didn’t have before. I believe strongly that cancer can be defeated if physicians, researchers, and philanthropists work together as a team.”
