Half of flights leaving DFW Airport delayed with North Texas storms

Half the flights leaving DFW International Airport were delayed on Thursday with storms moving through North Texas.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, 50% of flights departing DFW Airport were delayed and 5% were canceled. At Dallas Love Field, 14% of departing flights were delayed and 11% canceled. The National Weather Service in Fort Worth said the storms could lead to damaging winds, hail and flooding. There is a lower possibility of a tornado.

American Airlines had delayed 20% of its flights nationwide on Thursday and canceled 2% as of 1 p.m. Southwest Airlines delayed 9% and canceled 1%.

Just after noon, the National Weather Service in Fort Worth also issued a flash flood warning for central Collin and northern Dallas counties until 2 p.m. Forecasters expect flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas and roadways. Residents should expect flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage.

On Tuesday, severe thunderstorms forced flights to be called off at D-FW airports, with many being delayed and canceled as tornado sirens went off early in the morning and thunderstorms rolled in.

The rain, storms and accompanying flooding come as nearly 150,000 customers were still without power late Thursday morning, according to Oncor, the largest provider of electricity in North Texas.
