‘Grateful and excited’: Megan Conway finds a landing anchor chair at 10/11 in Lincoln

Megan Conway was out of work for about a month, knowing all the while she had the job of her choice waiting.

Choosing was the challenge.

A handful of public relations firms in Lincoln reached out to her in early June after KLKN-TV, the city’s ABC affiliate, opted not to renew her contract when it expired at the end of May.

In the end, she opted to remain in television.

“Getting holidays off and working 9-to-5 hours sounded good, but I love what I do,” she told the Journal Star.

On Tuesday, Conway officially accepted a position at KOLN/KGIN-TV. She will anchor the morning and noon 10/11 news broadcasts, the CBS-affiliated station announced.

“Staying in Lincoln and staying in the same profession was important to me,” she said.

The changes will begin Monday.

“I’m grateful and excited for the opportunity to continue serving our community,” Conway said. “It’s a privilege to do the job I love in my home state, and I want to thank the viewers for their trust. My passion for journalism and Nebraska burns brightly.”

Conway is a native of Indianola who graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a journalism degree.

She and her husband Max have built a life in Lincoln. They have two young children and just moved into a bigger house.

“We’re very connected to the community,” she said. “So, we really didn’t want to uproot our young family again and move for a job.

“Staying in Lincoln was a big priority for us.”

Conway had been with KLKN since 2014, working in multiple roles in the newsroom. She left the station in May after serving as the evening anchor for eight years.

“Megan is an accomplished journalist, and it’s clear she is driven to continue to serve viewers in Lincoln and across Nebraska,” said Mikel Lauber, 10/11’s director of news and innovation, in a written statement. “Most importantly, Megan has built a reputation of trust in our community, which aligns perfectly with the culture at 10/11.”

In a June interview, she told the Journal Star she was “blindsided” when she found out her contract with the ABC affiliate would not be renewed.

To make room for Conway, morning anchor Danielle Shenk will transition to evening digital executive producer and streaming anchor. Shenk will provide updates from the streaming studio for the evening newscasts and will also fill in on the anchor desk.
