Gov. DeSantis announces infrastructure, workforce training grants for Northwest Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Gov. Ron DeSantis visited Pensacola State College on Monday morning for a news conference.

The governor announced infrastructure and workforce training grants for Northwest Florida.


DeSantis awarded $4.4 million to Pensacola State College. The money will go to establishing a new Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics program.. The governor also announced that $3 million will be awarded to the DeFuniak Springs airport. $4.6 million was awarded to Jackson County to expand State Road 276 to Old Airbase Road for a housing development project.

“Today’s awards will help bring high demand, high wage jobs and businesses to Northwest Florida,” DeSantis said. “These strategic investments will benefit Escambia, Walton, Santa Rosa and Jackson counties and provide new opportunities for families from across the Panhandle.”

The governor was joined by Florida Commerce Secretary Alex Kelly as well as leaders from DeFuniak Springs and Jackson County.
