Gordon Ramsay Says He’s “Lucky” to Be Alive After “Really Bad” Bicycle Accident
Gordon Ramsay has a “very important message for all the dads out there” following a serious bicycle accident this week.
The celebrity chef took to his Instagram ahead of Father’s Day to share that he’s lucky to be alive, all thanks to his helmet, after a “really bad accident” while riding his bike in Connecticut.
“It really shook me,” Ramsay, 57, said. “Honestly, I’m lucky to be here. Now, from those incredible trauma surgeons, doctors, nurses and the hospital that looked after me this week, they were amazing. But, honestly, you’ve got to wear a helmet. I don’t care how short the journey is. I don’t care [about] the fact that these helmets cost money. But they’re crucial. Even with the kids, a short journey, you’ve gotta wear a helmet.”
The Kitchen Nightmares star said he thankfully didn’t break any bones or suffer any “major injuries,” but revealed a massive bruise on his torso. “I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato,” he wrote in the post’s caption.
“Now, I’m lucky to be standing here,” he continued in the video. “I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week. And I’m sort of getting through it. But, I cannot tell you the importance of wearing a helmet.”
Ramsay, who has enjoyed cycling in his free time for years and is an avid marathoner and triathlete, shares six children with his wife, Tana Ramsay.
The restaurateur concluded his caption by wishing everyone a “great Father’s Day and be safe.”
