Former Wildcats Deandre Ayton, Azuolas Tubelis fall short of Olympics; Josh Green named to Australian team

Former Arizona Wildcats Deandre Ayton and Azuolas Tubelis came up short of making the Paris Olympics as their respective national teams lost in the final round of Olympic Qualifying Tournaments Sunday.

Ayton scored 17 points for The Bahamas in their 86-78 loss to Spain. The Bahamas was seeking its first-ever berth to the Olympics.

Ayton averaged 19.5 points and 11.8 rebounds over four games at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Spain.

Also on Sunday, Lithuania fell to host Puerto Rico 79-68 in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament final held in San Juan. Tubelis did score, playing 27 seconds of action.

While neither former Wildcat will be making the Olympics, Arizona men’s basketball will have representation in Paris. Former shooting guard Josh Green was named to the Australian roster over the weekend.

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr will coach the United States team at the Olympics. The U.S. is seeking its fifth straight Olympic gold medal.
