Former Commanders TE Logan Thomas expected to sign with 49ers
Logan Thomas is heading back out west, and he’s heading to a contender.
Thomas is finalizing a deal with the San Francisco 49ers, NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo reported Monday afternoon.
A 2014 NFL Draft fourth-round selection of the Arizona Cardinals, the tight end is returning to the NFC West to provide some depth behind standout TE George Kittle for the two-time reigning division champs.
Thomas, 32, was a mainstay over the past four seasons in the Washington Commanders’ starting lineup, but he’s bounced around the league, having spent time with the Cards, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills before joining Washington.
Thomas, who had his best season statistically during his 2020 Commanders campaign with career highs of 72 receptions, 670 yards and six touchdowns, is coming off a 2023 season in which he started 15 games and recorded 55 catches, 496 yards and four touchdowns.
Boasting one of the best and deepest wide receiver corps in the NFL, the 49ers are now adding some veteran depth behind one of the game’s top tight ends.
