Fitness coaches on working with Amitabh Bachchan: ‘Sometimes, we have to tell him that it is not an ideal time to train’
Vrinda Bhatt and Shivoham, a celebrity fitness trainer couple, have opened up about working with Kalki 2898 actor Amitabh Bachchan. Vrinda, who has trained Big B for over 24 years, spoke about his commitment to staying healthy, and the things she has learned from him.
“His mindset is ‘when you know something is good for you, you just do it’. Then, it’s not about comfort or ‘I don’t have the time’. People say they don’t have the time to exercise, but if Mr Bachchan can make time to exercise…I think all of us can too. So, his basic mindset is ‘I will do this because it is good for me and I need to do it’,” she told Humans of Bombay.
Shivoham, who is currently training with senior Bachchan, added that there are times when he is busy and cannot work out or wants to exercise later in the evening. “But health-wise, we know it is not the ideal time to train for anybody. The later you train, the more your body is (slightly) more energised and sleep patterns go for a toss. So, sometimes, we also have to tell him it is not an ideal time to train. So then, he makes it a point to remove time (from his schedule). He knows it is super crucial for him to be active. If he can schedule things according to his workout, I am pretty sure that other people can also. If you want to prioritise it, you can always do.”
Emphasising the age-old idiom, ‘where there is a will, there is a way’, Vrinda, who conducts breathwork sessions with the 81-year-old, said, “We do Pranayamas, starting with the basic breathwork exercise and then move on to yoga stretches.”
Further, Vrinda shared that she has learned “discipline, and punctuality” from the superstar. “Mindset — I think he is the father of it. I still remember how we would start training at 6 am. He was never late. If there was a delay, he would tell me: ‘I am running so many minutes late’. So, I have learned the value of time, respecting time from him,” Vrinda confessed.
Tips to make workouts a regular part of your routine
*Have a workout schedule that aligns with your daily routine. “Consistency is key, so choose a time that you can commit to regularly. Having a set routine makes it easier to incorporate exercise into your lifestyle, reducing the chances of skipping workouts,” said fitness trainer Garima Goyal.
*Identify physical activities you genuinely enjoy. “Whether it’s cycling, yoga, swimming, or team sports, doing things you like turns exercise into a pleasurable experience. Enjoyment increases the likelihood of you sticking to your routine,” shared Goyal.
*Share your fitness goals with someone who can offer support and encouragement. “This could be a friend, family member, or workout buddy. An accountability partner can provide motivation, share the journey with you, and celebrate successes together, making the process more rewarding,” said Goyal.
*Acknowledge and reward yourself when you achieve milestones. “This could be treating yourself to a healthy meal, a relaxing day, or even new workout gear. Celebrating achievements reinforces the positive aspects of your fitness journey, making it more likely that you’ll stay committed,” said Goyal.
