Fever troll Diana Taurasi on social media over Caitlin Clark comments after win over Mercury

The Fever didn’t miss an opportunity to rub their comeback win over the Mercury in star Diana Taurasi’s face.

“Reality check,” the Fever tweeted along with a graphic celebrating their 88-82 win on Sunday.

This was in response to Taurasi’s comments about Caitlin Clark, the top pick in their year’s WNBA draft, after the completion of her college career at Iowa.

“Reality is coming, there’s levels to this thing,” Taurasi said during an appearance on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt of Clark and Chicago Sky rookie Kamilla Cardoso.

It sparked a potential budding on-court rivalry that even WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert acknowledged, and Clark got the first laugh in the battle between the rookie and all-time great.

The Fever trailed by as many as 15 points against the Mercury and came from behind to win, outscoring the Mercury, 29-15, in the third quarter along the way.

In the win, Clark nearly recorded a triple-double, collecting 15 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds, while overcoming a 4-for-14 shooting display with six turnovers in the process.

Taurasi offered Clark her props after the game.

“It’s amazing,” she said at a postgame press conference. “What Caitlin’s been able to do in her short career so far has been nothing short of remarkable. The one thing that I really love about her … she’s put the work in. Even throughout her short WNBA career, it’s been a lot of pressure, a lot of things thrown at her and she keeps showing up and she keeps getting better every single game. So her future is super bright.”
