Berkshire Community College (BCC) has the distinction of being
the first community college established in the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts. Nestled in the scenic Berkshire Hills, our nearly
2,000 students have access to a wide range of career and transfer
programs on our newly renovated campus. Occupying a scenic 180-acre
property, just minutes from downtown Pittsfield, Massachusetts, BCC
provides students from a broad range of cultural and socioeconomic
backgrounds with an intimate learning environment, small class
sizes, and much opportunity for interaction with faculty. Berkshire
County was home to many forward-thinking historic figures
including, W.E.B. DuBois, Susan B. Anthony, and Elizabeth (Mumbet)

About the Executive Director of
Development:

Are you driven by a mission to make a lasting impact? Are you
passionate about equity and education? If so, we invite you to join
our team as the Executive Director of Development. This pivotal
role connects donors’ interests and passions with the needs of BCC,
fueling the College’s mission and expanding its reach.

In partnership with the College President and the Berkshire
Community College Foundation Board of Directors, the Executive
Director of Development provides visionary leadership for all
fundraising initiatives. You will craft and execute strategic plans
for internal and external fundraising activities, building and
nurturing relationships with individuals, businesses, and
foundations to achieve ambitious giving goals. Your focus will
support the College’s equity agenda.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage comprehensive development strategies, focusing
    on annual giving, donor cultivation, stewardship programs, planned
    giving, and utilizing cutting-edge technology for communication and
    fundraising tracking.
  • Support a volunteer-driven Foundation Board of Directors that
    manages an investment portfolio, Foundation budget, and development
    efforts. The Board meets quarterly.
  • Collaborate with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)
    at BCC on fundraising efforts, planned gifts, and database
    management.
  • Partner with the Director of Marketing and Communications to
    produce impactful materials that highlight the College’s
    achievements and needs.
  • Provide direction and leadership to a lean team, including the
    Manager of Development Operations.
  • Lead the search to fill a vacant fundraiser position.
  • Plan for the addition of another fundraising position, to be
    filled in FY26.
  • Serve as a key advisor to the President, contributing to the
    strategic vision as a member of the President’s Cabinet.

 
Requirements:

  • Proven success in development roles, including annual fund
    management, major gift solicitation, and
    individual/corporate/foundation relations.
  • Focus on community engagement, with a willingness to represent
    the College at relevant events and meetings.
  • Proficiency in fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
    and digital data tracking.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering inclusive and equitable
    interactions and leadership practices.
  • Proven ability to identify and pursue fundraising goals and
    initiatives that narrow equity gaps.
  • Experience in designing and implementing strategies that
    support the diverse needs of our community.
  • Commitment to building relationships with donors and
    stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, valuing their perspectives
    and contributions.
  • Exceptional skills in prospecting, cultivating, and managing
    donor relationships.
  • Creative writing ability for producing compelling fundraising
    materials.
  • Strong management, organizational, and interpersonal
    skills.
  • Experience in assessing and communicating the impact of
    development efforts.
  • Leadership experience in fundraising or development
    settings.
  • Commitment to equity-minded and community-centric
    fundraising.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college
    mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred, with at least
    five years of leadership experience in
    fundraising/development.

 

Additional Information:

Source of Funding: State Funded
Salary: $110,000 – $125,000
Area of Assignment: Office of the President
Effective Date:  Summer/early Fall 2024 (or when the finalist
can begin)
