Teaser rally. Tying run stranded. Disappointment abounds.
Justin Steele pitched quite well, and with a little defense, his line would look even better. It’s nice to see him clicking again, though it doesn’t much matter when the bats do next to nothing.
Dansby Swanson turned a middle-middle offering into a dinger instead of a groundball, so that was good. Miguel Amaya crushed one off the wall in left (a few feet from being a game-tying home run). That was also good. Not much else to speak of on offense from this one, which is a shame, because it wouldn’t have taken too much more.
Seiya Suzuki, after being checked on by the trainers and staying in the game (hit by a throw on a steal of second, and also just generally appearing to be in discomfort later), had to leave in the 6th inning. He is likely to join Nico Hoerner in the “day-to-day, but might-actually-be-injured-uh-oh” category. This sucks.
The Ankin Law “Making It Personal” Player of the Game is … well, I guess I could say Michael Busch, because he did have a nice game. Steele would be fine, too, because again, he didn’t get much help.
