Enhanced Box Score: Giants 7, Cubs 6 – June 17, 2024 – Bleacher Nation
That, my fellow prisoners, really felt like the end of something. That was one of the most laughably predictable and soul-crushing losses of the season. After weeks and weeks and weeks of the same low-scoring, bullpen-blowing, vomit-inducing loss, the Cubs finally battled back BIG tonight. They finally had some good luck, with both the Giants and the umpire handing them runs. AND they even took matters into their own hands, with a big RBI double from Seiya Suzuki and the towering three-run homer (onto Waveland) from Ian Happ.
And yet somehow they STILL managed to lose in the most obvious and painful way possible, giving up lead after lead — Hayden Wesneski gave up the game-tying homer, Mark Leiter Jr. forced in a run with a HBP (and later let the Cubs 3-run lead shrink to two). But they all saved the best for last, when, of course – OF COURSE – Hector Neris blew yet another save.
- Catchers interference
- Walk
- 3-run, go-ahead, game-winning homer
I have no more words, other than the following: How can he possibly have been handed another save opportunity? Absolute, pure stubbornness and insanity.
