Endwell senior rises to the top of national fitness contest

ENDWELL, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) — A senior in Endwell is currently in the top five in a nationwide voting contest of fitness and building muscle.

Sean Harrigan is turning 66 years old this year, and has the second most votes in the country for the Mr. Health and Fitness competition.

The contest focuses on how fitness has helped you throughout your life.

Even while living with Leukemia, Harrigan says he has worked out his entire life.

In 2020, he caught COVID, and due to his pre-existing condition, was in a coma for a month.
He says in that time, he lost 35 pounds of muscle, but after a month of physical therapy with UHS, he was discharged from the hospital.

The contest, put on by Muscle Fitness Magazine, lets voters cast one vote a day, and the winner will be featured in the magazine, and given a $20,000 prize.

“I’m competing against fitness trainers, I’m competing against body building contestants, and this old man from Endwell is up there as number four,” said Harrigan.

Harrigan says that since the coma, he has changed his workout routine to use less weight and do everything in a circuit format, meaning back to back.

Since we interviewed Harrigan, he has moved up to second place in the contest. There’s 3 days left in the competition to cast your votes.
