Did U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert request infrastructure funding from a bill she voted against?

U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional district said she worked closely with local officials to secure more than $50 million in federal funding for the South Bridge project in Glenwood Springs despite voting against the Infrastructure Law, which authorized the funds.

Boebert released a press statement Dec. 19, 2023, and a tweet May 22, saying, “We have secured over $51.4 million for the South Bridge.” The bridge is being built across the Roaring Fork River, connecting Highway 82 to neighborhoods to the west.

Boebert’s statement said she lobbied the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation and “worked closely with local elected officials on both sides of the aisle.” 

Boebert’s Chief of Staff Jeff Small said in an email that the congresswoman rejected the Infrastructure Bill because it included “Green New Deal policies, electric buses and government welfare.”
