Dense fog causing flight delays out of Nantucket, snarling post-Fourth travel
Travel out of Nantucket continued to be disrupted Tuesday, two days after the lone airport on the island encouraged travelers to make a backup plan in the event their flight was delayed or canceled.
As of 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, 11 flights to or from Nantucket had been delayed, a day after 30 flights were delayed. On Sunday, at the close of Fourth of July weekend, 35 flights were delayed and 24 were canceled, according to the flight tracking software FlightAware.
The island’s airport blamed the delays on heavy fog.
“At this time ACK is advising passengers to have a back-up travel and lodging plan,” the airport wrote in a post on X. “We have resources posted at the Visitor Services desk adjacent to the car rental counters.”
The airport encouraged passengers with delayed or canceled flights to reach out to the Steamship Authority or Hy-Line Cruises to book a seat on a ferry.
And it’s not just Nantucket.
At Boston Logan Airport, 58 flights were delayed and six were canceled as of Tuesday morning. On Monday, 220 flights out of the airport were delayed and 22 were canceled. On Sunday, 262 trips were delayed and 12 were canceled, according to FlightAware.
Travel out of Bradley International Airport in Hartford was also impacted, though only two flights were delayed as of Tuesday morning. Forty-one flights were delayed on Monday, with one cancellation. And on Sunday, 50 flights were delayed with three cancellations.
