Demi Moore Completed Her Cannes Look With Her Dog and Summer’s #1 Shoe

My favorite time of the year is here. No, I’m not talking about summer; I have a love-hate relationship with the season, as I love the sunshine and overall #summervibes, but despise the humidity it brings here in New York City. The “favorite” I’m talking about here is none other than the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, which is truly a feast of fashion. (I’m secretly hoping I get to attend in the near future, because, hey, a girl can manifest!)

Meryl Streep made a splash with her all-white ensemble and metallic pumps, while Bella Hadid debuted the slinkiest mini dress ever. But, right now, all I can think about is Demi Moore’s black gown that she accessorized with the hottest accessories of summer 2024, one of which is not what you think. 

The actress attended the photocall for her upcoming film, The Substance, looking as chic as ever in an all-black look. She wore a strapless black maxi dress with exaggerated hips, a rosette belt, and cutout detailing along the neckline. Moore being Moore didn’t leave the hotel room without the hottest accessory of the year: her dog, Pilaf, who’s basically as famous as she is now. She rounded out her French Riviera ensemble with black sunglasses, a black bag, and the ‘It’ shoe of summer 2024: black ballet flats.

I didn’t expect Moore to pair her black gown with ballet flats, but honestly, it works, and I’m copying the look, stat. I wouldn’t necessarily say the actress’ look follows the “Wrong Shoe Theory,” given the fact that flats and dresses are a great clothing-shoe pairing. However, given the event, a.k.a., the Cannes Film Festival, I’m used to seeing more elevated styles, like heels. However, flats are totally red-carpet friendly; if your dress is long enough, most people won’t even know you’re wearing them, meaning you’ll be secretly comfortable, too. 

Moore’s pair peeked out from underneath her hemline. The all-black style featured a pointed-toe front that instantly elevated the low-to-the-ground shoe, plus a ruched look that gave them a textured, eye-catching touch. Of course, I immediately proceeded to look for similar styles, and to my luck, I found plenty that have a scrunched appearance, like this pair from Vince that also have a trendy slingback or this option from Sam Edelman that are the cutest Mary Jane ballerinas, period.
