Delta College gets 6K grant to upgrade public broadcasting infrastructure

FRANKENLUST TWP, MI – New federal funding on its way to Delta College will help the college’s public media station upgrade its public broadcasting infrastructure.

A $976,708 grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as a part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Next Generation Warning System grant program was announced on May 21.

The grant, which was announced by Congressman Dan Kildee (D-Flint Twp.), will increase WDCQ-TV’s resiliency and readiness during emergencies, according to a news release.

“Public media stations are critical parts of our community, providing news free of charge and helping keep residents informed during emergencies,” said Congressman Dan Kildee. “I’m proud to announce this federal grant for Delta College Public Media’s WDCQ-TV to strengthen the station’s emergency alert systems.”

Delta College has held the license for WDCQ-TV since 1964.

The new funding will allow the station to upgrade transmission equipment to offer timely warnings and information to residents in the Thumb, the waterways of Saginaw Bay and the Great Lakes Bay Region, Delta College President Mike Gavin said.
