Deadlock Might Be Valve’s Upcoming Third-Person Hero Shooter

According to several credible reports, Valve is developing a new game called Deadlock. Leaked screenshots from the ongoing Closed Alpha playtest have even been shared on Twitter/X by content creator Gabe Follower.

From the looks of it, Deadlock is a third-person hero shooter that draws inspiration from the likes of Overwatch, Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Valorant, and others. Valve reporter Tyler McVicker added that it has been in development since 2018 under the codename Citadel.

Matches are a 6v6 affair set on a large map with four lanes. Each lane has a so-called transit line that players can use to move quickly, thanks to a skyhook thing similar to BioShock Infinite’s. The setting is completely original and mixes steampunk elements with fantasy.

In one of Gabe Follower’s screenshots, we can also read about one of the heroes, Grey Talon. He’s described as a hero capable of delivering long-range skill shots with his bow. Here’s the in-game description:

A cunning predator, Grey Talon uses a combination of deadly accuracy, traps, and clever positioning to bring down the toughest opponents.

The screenshot shows him having four abilities, and it’s likely this will be true for the other heroes as well. Of course, nobody knows exactly when Valve plans to unveil this game to the world in an official capacity. The same applies to a release date window, although the large playtest without much of an NDA might suggest it won’t be long until more people can get their hands on Deadlock.

Until then, stay tuned on Wccftech to be updated on the latest news, leaks, and rumors.
