Chris Hemsworth in Talks to Lead G.I. Joe-Transformers Crossover Movie for Paramount and Hasbro

Chris Hemsworth is doubling down on Transformers. The actor is in talks to lead an untitled crossover film for Paramount and Hasbro Entertainment that unites the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

This marks a second Transformers project for Hemsworth, who voice stars in the upcoming Transformers One animated movie, which arrives in theaters Sept. 20.

The proposed film follows the events of last year’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which ended with Anthony Ramos’ Noah Diaz getting a job offer from the Joes. Director Steven Caple Jr. put the ending the script at the encouragement of producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, with the filmmakers knowing it could take some maneuvering to make it happen.

“The studio reacted positively, and they were just like, ‘Well, how do we do this? How do we make this happen?’” Caple told THR last year, noting there was a crossover graphic novel that could serve as inspiration. “It took almost two years to go through the whole system and talk to everybody and get a feel.”

Caple at one point was eying the crossover feature, but was not attached. It is unclear if a writer or director is currently on the movie, which will be produced by di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy will produce. Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment executive produce.

Hemsworth, who rose to global stardom playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is coming off of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. His notable roles also include leading Netflix’s action-heavy Extraction franchise.

Deadline first reported the news.
