Career Fair In East Orange Will Include Maritime, Transport Jobs
“We are so close to Ports Newark and Elizabeth, but many residents don’t consider careers in the maritime industry.”

In an ongoing effort to ensure that East Orange residents have access to opportunities in fast-growing, in-demand industries, the Mayor’s Office of Employment and Training is hosting a Career Awareness Fair on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Cicely L. Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts, 35 Winans Street, between 10am-4pm.
The event, designed to attract people of all ages to attend and explore, will feature live indoor and outdoor demonstrations featuring the best in innovation and technology. Each participating organization will have a representative on site to speak one-on-one with attendees about careers, internships, job recruitment, and more.
Mayor Ted R. Green highlighted the importance of the fair and its purpose of introducing both current and future members of the workforce to diverse traditional and non-traditional job opportunities.
“A key component of my workforce development initiative is to expose our residents to careers in rapidly growing sectors that are becoming increasingly vital to the 21st century job market,” said Mayor Green. “Strong alliances with unions and other business stakeholders have been integral to my mission of providing residents with free training and access to obtaining union membership. This Career Awareness Fair is an extension of these partnerships and aims to familiarize residents with rewarding career prospects in fields that align with their interests and skills.”
David Sharp, MOET Coordinator for Employment and Training Programs, conceived the idea for the fair after attending a large maritime career event in New York City.
“We are so close to Ports Newark and Elizabeth, but many of our residents don’t consider careers in the maritime industry such as ferry operation or seafaring,” said Sharp. “That realization prompted me to create an entire event dedicated to connecting our residents with industry leaders of in-demand sectors like maritime, green energy, transportation, manufacturing, construction management, infrastructure, aviation, and more.”
