Boulder ranks No. 1 in Colorado for Gen Z tech jobs
Map of the #1 Gen-Z tech towns in every state.
Could a new wave of young grads be moving to Boulder to break into the tech industry?
A new ranking finds Boulder is No. 11 in the state and No. 3 overall of the best cities for Gen Z to start their tech career. So maybe they should.
BizInsure’s The Gen Z IRL Tech Index: Ranking Where New Grads Can Break into the Tech Biz in Every State (bizinsure.com/genz-tech-index) finds Boulder is not just the best place in the state but in the nation:
- #3 in the nation for median tech job wages ($131,150)
- #3 in the nation for most tech jobs per 1k jobs (89 / 1K residents)
- #5 in the Gen Z factor score (lots of Gen Zers, high diversity, and plenty of entertainment options)
- 19 growing tech companies (according to Crunchbase).
How does Boulder compare to other top cities?
San Jose, CA tops the list with the highest tech salaries and job density, with NYC close behind.
Sierra Vista, AZ offers the most affordable living with rent taking just 11% of the average tech salary. Meanwhile in Boulder, it’s 17%.
Small cities like Boulder and Huntsville, AL provide excellent career growth opportunities with affordable living costs and connections to state universities and tech companies.
Are layoffs impacting interest in tech jobs? Not really, according to NY Times journalist Francesca Mari (“Why Gen Z Students are Seeking Tech and Finance Jobs”), Gen Z graduates are looking to enter the tech industry as much as any generation, even in the current climate.
How to know where to go? What makes this one different is that there is a top city for every state. BizInsure thinks this is a more actionable take, since not everyone is ready to move to New York City and San Francisco for their career – some just want a good life with a good job in a growing industry – the hallmarks of tech.
Methodology
The analysis looks at data from sources including the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Crunchbase, and more.
