Bethenny Frankel calls ex-fiancé Paul Bernon’s new romance with Aurora Culpo ‘gutting’: ‘It’s embarrassing’
Bethenny Frankel finally addressed her breakup with ex-fiancé Paul Bernon.
The “Real Housewives of New York City” alum revealed she had “initiated” the split but acknowledged that it “was certainly mutual.”
Her tune, however, changed when the investment banker, 45, moved on so publicly with Aurora Culpo, who spoke openly about the new romance on her “Barely Filtered” podcast.
“Hearing about your ex-fiancé committing to another woman shortly thereafter on their first date, and then being inside their relationship hearing about their sex and their gifts and meeting each other’s kids and the level of commitment,” Frankel shared on her “Just B With Bethenny” podcast Sunday.
“It was gutting. It was brutal.”
Frankel, 53, said that Bernon and Culpo, 35, “committed to each other” after just six weeks of dating while she had been with him for six years.
“It’s embarrassing,” the former Bravolebrity told her listeners, adding that it was “rough” on her to be painted as a “spinster.”
“Being portrayed as the jilted ex who had been upgraded from — that my ex had moved on from me with a younger woman — and that it regurgitated the continuous narrative that he is a very under-the-radar person who had now gotten serious with someone,” she explained.
“When, ironically, I was the very-under-the-radar person.”
Frankel concluded her brief podcast episode by sending a message to Culpo about how to treat the exes of men going forward, encouraging her to “think about the other woman in any situation.”
“If you’re the new woman in a relationship you need to tread lightly and be cautious about whoever the woman before you was because we’ve all been in both positions,” Frankel implored.
“I think by sharing all the details of your new relationship, you’re disrespecting the last relationship.”
Culpo revealed during a podcast episode with her sister Olivia about two weeks ago that she and Bernon already had met each other’s kids.
“He’s met them twice and, like, on FaceTime and stuff,” Aurora told the former Miss Universe winner.
She told Olivia, 32, that her kids “really” like Bernon before gushing, “He’s really nice. He has his kids, two, and they’re 17 and 14. They’re older, and they’re really nice.”
News of the pair’s romance broke when an eyewitness told Deuxmoi that Bernon and Aurora had been kissing at the ‘Quin House in Boston. A source later told Us Weekly that the duo has been dating for at least two months following Bernon’s and Frankel’s split earlier this year.
Despite the serious nature of the romance, Olivia did not allow Aurora to bring Bernon to her Rhode Island nuptials with Christian McCaffrey, which her sister felt was “rude.”
