BDS is looking to fill nearly 100 positions at June job fair

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Bay District Schools is looking to hire several teachers, and 50-100 part-time and full-time support employees at an upcoming job fair.

The hiring event is on June 13 at the Nelson Building located at 1311 Balboa Avenue, Panama City, FL.

The district will hire instructional teachers between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. A support position job fair is from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Support positions include bus drivers, maintenance, and custodians to name a few.

Hiland Park Elementary Principal Ilea Faircloth said support staff play an important role.

“The support people help our school function,” Faircloth said. “They are the people that jump in and run small groups alongside our instructional staff [and] our teachers. they assist in the lunchroom with management. they manage in the classroom. our support people are vital to the everyday function of each of our schools.”

Bay District Schools Human Resources Executive Director Holly Buchanan said the team wants to make hires on the spot.

“We are hoping to fill as many vacancies as we possibly can,” Buchanan said. “We will definitely be hiring on the spot that day. We love to go and get people hired on early in the summer where they can make plans and preparations for training before the school year starts.”

Bay District Schools will waive fingerprint fees ($75) and one paraprofessional testing fee for any applicants offered positions at the job fair pending background check clearance.

Candidates are required to bring their driver’s license to the job fair.

Applications can be filled out beforehand or at the job fair event for anyone needing extra assistance or help with a computer.

Support employee incentives:

  • $15 an hour minimum
  • Flexible work schedules

  • All major holidays and school breaks off including Christmas break, Spring break, and Thanksgiving break

Instructional employee incentives:

  • $48,250 annual minimum
  • $10- 15,000 bonus available for select schools
  • Family-friendly work environment

Support employee candidates should bring a resume, high school diploma and/or college transcripts, and any certifications to the interview.
