Bartonville awarded nearly ,000 for natural energy jobs

BARTONVILLE, Ill. (WMBD) — The Bartonville Police Department announced Thursday that the town will receive thousands of dollars to create jobs as its town transitions to new ways of producing natural energy.

In a Facebook post from the Bartonville Police Department Thursday, the department said the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity program awarded a nearly $60,000 Energy Transition Community grant to the town. The Energy Transition Fund finances the program under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act of 2021.

During phase 1 of the application process, the program awarded the town with the expectation of using the funds to “address the economic and social impact on the community or region of a plant or mine retirement or transition,” according to the press release.

During phase 2, the village must engage with its community in the process.

There is a public meeting scheduled for Monday, July 22 at 5:45 p.m. at Bartonville Village Hall. Residents can provide their feedback regarding the proposed use of the award money.

Residents must produce a written statement or make a public comment at the meeting at 6 p.m. at the hall. If you want to submit a written statement, then submit it to the hall by 2 p.m. Monday.

For more information concerning the proposed project, please contact the village hall at 309-633-2053 or email the hall at clerk@bartonville.org. Contact the hall for any further questions.
