Atlas Cinemas to close at Mayfield Heights’ Eastgate Shopping Center, Dave & Buster’s to move in

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Atlas Cinema at Eastgate Shopping Center will close this month to make way for a Dave & Buster’s sports bar and restaurant.

Atlas Cinemas Eastgate 10 will close July 16 at the shopping center, located at S.O.M. Center and Mayfield roads. An Atlas release stated, “Due to the shopping center wanting to redevelop the theater space into something other than a movie theater, Atlas Cinemas must close.

“Atlas Cinemas would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our loyal customers, community, dedicated staff and management over the years.”

Confirming the closing was Andrew Hoffman of Cosmo-Eastgate, LTD., the shopping center’s owner.

“The Saluan family (owners of Atlas Cinemas) have been very good tenants, and I wish them well,” Hoffman stated in an email reply to cleveland.com.

“We have made a forward-looking business decision to bring in Dave & Busters to Eastgate Shopping Center. Trends have shown that the long-term prospects for Dave & Busters are brighter than that of the movie theater segment, in general.”

Atlas’s lease with the shopping center has provisions that allow either party to terminate with advance notice.

Hoffman said Eastgate has had a movie theater since 1997, beginning with Regal Cinemas, followed by Phoenix, then Atlas.

When asked if the theater would be demolished or renovated for its use as a bar/eatery, Hoffman said, “The exact set of responsibilities has not been finalized.”

Dave & Buster’s hopes to open at Eastgate in 2025. When it opens, it will be in close proximity to the restaurant/bar Winking Lizard, which is located at 1355 S.O.M. Center Road, across the parking lot from Atlas Cinemas.

“It is always unfortunate when a business closes,” said Mayfield Heights Economic Development Director Jeremy Rowan, “but the city is hopeful that Dave & Buster’s will provide residents and visitors with a quality place to enjoy some fun food, play games and watch sports.

“Dave & Buster’s will be a welcome addition to the city’s business community.”
