Ariana Grande is setting the record straight after a video went viral on social media that pointed out her radical voice change within seconds.
The Wicked film star was recently interviewed by Podcrushed. In the TikTok video, Grande starts speaking in a deeper voice and suddenly snaps and goes into a higher-pitched voice.
Since the video was posted a day ago, it has had over 5M views, and it reached Grande herself, who replied with an explanation as to the reason behind the sudden vocal change.
“Habit (speaking like this for two years) and also vocal health,” Grande replied. “I intentionally change my vocal placement (high/low) often depending on how much singing I’m doing. I’ve always done this BYE.”

Grande has had a busy year. The singer recently dropped her latest studio album titled Eternal Sunshine, which she said came about during the Hollywood strikes.
“I did not plan to [make new music now]. I didn’t have the goal to make an album,” Grande said on the Zach Sang Show. “I actually was really opposed to coming out with music until after Wicked, either both parts or just one part. I wasn’t sure how I would feel.”
However, after a few sessions in the studio with Max Martin, the songs flowed, and she has so far released three singles, including “Yes, And?” “We Can’t Be Friends,” and “The Boy Is Mine.”
“It all just kind of started pouring out, and after our first week together, I kept coming to the studio every day by myself, and it just kinda kept organically happening that way, so I just decided to react and listen to that, and I thought maybe it should come out if it’s coming out of me this way,” she said. “Maybe it should be shared this way.”
Later this year, Grande will star opposite Cynthia Erivo in the film adaptation of the musical Wicked, in which she will play Glinda. The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, is set to open in theaters on November 27.
