Apple’s Foldable MacBooks, Featuring 18-Inch And 20-Inch Displays Supplied By LG, Are Set To Launch By The End Of 2025

The new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models adhered to a major redesign not so long ago, and it appears the company has an additional segment that it wants to explore. Based on a well-known analyst’s reports, Apple is possibly working on new foldable MacBook models, which will feature an almost crease-free design. Initial speculations suggest that the foldable MacBook models will be available in 18.8-inch and 20.2-inch screen sizes, using a flexible display from LG.

The next big thing for Apple is possibly stepping into the foldable category, despite being reluctant for the past few years. Companies like Samsung and OnePlus have already introduced their share of products for the category and have excelled in making it better. Apple could announce the machines alongside its foldable iPhones or during the same quarter.

In a Medium post, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared his predictions, detailing what we should look forward to with the upcoming foldables. The device appears to be available in two foldable variants. The company’s approach is pretty reminiscent of the MacBook Pro, as it has been offering two variants of the device with varying specifications. LG will be given the liberty to produce flexible panels for the devices, as mass production is expected to begin in 2025.

While many foldable options exist on the market right now, the main concern for Apple and its future products is the dented crease. For now, it is one of the major reasons why users are not actively transitioning to foldable devices, as the crease gives a not-so-sturdy appearance. However, Apple is looking to sort out a solution for this with expensive components, which would eliminate the crease on the foldable MacBook altogether.

Take note that while the product will be one of a kind, it will also boast a hefty price tag to justify the heavy research that went into developing a device that is ahead of the competition. Ultimately, the technology would take its time to standardize and become cheaper, after which the devices could come with a reduced price. Initially, it would not be wrong to presume that the foldable MacBook could cost as much as the Vision Pro.

Apple will ship more than a million units of the foldable MacBook, and once the technology booms, it could expect further sales, similar to what the Vision Pro is experiencing. The launch date is speculated to be available by the end of 2025, and the company will be using its M5 series of chips in the machines, which will potentially be based on TSMC’s 2nm fabrication. Keep in mind that these are early speculations, and the company could also opt to deliver early.
