Angry Joan Laporta tipped to fire Xavi as Barcelona coach for two reasons
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has already decided Xavi won’t be coach of the club next season after being angered by his actions, according to RAC1.
Speculation broke out ahead of kick-off against Almeria last night that Xavi’s future was in doubt, and the latest update claims Laporta is set to fire the boss.
The president is said to be “deeply disappointed” and “very angry” with Xavi for two reasons in particular.
The first reason, as previously reported, are Xavi’s comments ahead of the game. Laporta feels the coach’s words are vastly different from what he told the board at a meeting prior to the announcement he would be staying on.
Xavi defended his comments after the victory over Almeria that tightened Barca’s grip on second place.
“I said what I think. The economic situation is not the best. But we will still aspire to the maximum. I’m looking forward to next season to win titles,” he said.
“They haven’t said anything to me personally. The sports vice-president travelled with us. I only said what is real, that we are going to fight for all the titles, with ambition, but that the situation is not easy. It doesn’t change our reality.”
Laporta is also said to be unhappy with Xavi because he feels the club have gone to extraordinary lengths to make signings and the coach “has not benefited from it.”
