American Airlines Is Adding New Routes from NYC to Florida, New Orleans

American Airlines will add four new routes from New York City to Florida and Louisiana in the fall, expanding its warm-weather network in time for cooling temps.

The airline’s new routes will fly from New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ), Palm Beach International Airport (PBI), Orlando International Airport (MCO), and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), American confirmed to Travel + Leisure. All four new routes will kick off on November 5.

The flights to New Orleans and Sarasota will operate once each day on an Airbus A320 aircraft, while the flights to West Palm Beach and Orlando will operate twice each day on a Boeing 737 aircraft.

Joe Sottile, American’s director of domestic network planning, said in a statement about the new flights the airline’s “schedule offers customers convenient one-stop access to more than 200 destinations across our comprehensive global network.”

Currently, American operates several other flights to Florida from LaGuardia, including to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Pensacola.

American flies out of LaGuardia’s Terminal B, which was one of the first to be renovated as part of the airport’s complete overhaul after it was notoriously made fun of and even spoofed in a Saturday Night Live sketch. Now, it features favorite restaurants like Hill Country Barbecue Market and Eli Zabar’s Eli’s Essentials as well as the brand-new Chase Sapphire Lounge, which includes private hotel-style suites complete with caviar service and a concierge-style host.

The route expansion comes as the airline is revamping its onboard experience with a new first row Flagship Suite Preferred seat that will offer more space, several storage areas, and exclusive amenities on its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft and on retrofitted 777-300 aircraft. It also comes as the carrier continues to overhaul its lounges with its latest addition: a new Flagship lounge and Admirals Club set to open in Philadelphia next year.

American Airlines currently has amazing mileage deals for late summer and fall, offering one-way flights starting at just 5,000 miles through July 2.
