‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Reveals First Look Photo, Starts Filming in ‘Thrones’ Location

The next Game of Thrones prequel series is returning to a familiar filming location — and has released a first-look photo.

Above is the first image of Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall in the series. The photo arrives as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms begins shooting its debut season in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The move returns the franchise to the same production hub as Game of Thrones, while the franchise’s other prequel series, House of the Dragon, has shot outside London for its first two seasons.

In addition, the project has added several new actors: Finn Bennett (True Detective) as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel (Doctor Foster) as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things) as Tanselle, Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) as Ser Lyonel Baratheon and Sam Spruell (Fargo) as Maekar Targaryen.

Also, Sarah Adina Smith (Lessons In Chemistry) has joined the production to direct three of the season’s six episodes.

Previously announced director and executive producer Owen Harris (Black Mirror) will also direct three episodes.

The show’s official description: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The series is from creators George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker.
