Microsoft resumes rollout of Windows 11 24H2 to Insiders

And just like that, Windows 11 24H2 is back.

After the Windows Insider program took a hiatus from the rollout for reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with the calamitous debut of Recall, Microsoft has quietly resumed the flow with build 26100.863.

The announcement was made on June 15 as another update to the May 22 post regarding the release of Windows 11 24H2 to the Release Preview channel. It lacked any detail beyond the build number.

However, a support article for KB5039239, build 26100.863, provided more information. According to Microsoft, the update fixes Bluetooth audio problems, issues with BattlEye anti-cheat under Arm64, and tweaks the Copilot experience.

The Copilot change is simply to make the assistant behave more like an app pinned to the taskbar. Microsoft said: “This gives you the benefits of a typical app experience. For example, you can do things like resize, move, and snap the window.”

Microsoft also noted that “Windows 11, version 24H2 is only available for Copilot+ PCs devices.”

Copilot+ PCs launch on June 18 and include AI silicon “to do things that we never dreamed possible,” according to Microsoft.

Windows Insiders do not need such exotic hardware at this stage, although something that meets the current Windows 11 hardware requirements is a prerequisite for updating to Windows 11 24H2.

In Microsoft’s original Windows Insider blog for Windows 11 24H2, it warned that a Copilot+ PC was needed to run controversial logging feature Recall. Users were quick to demonstrate that was incorrect.

The company has since backed away from the creepy Recall logging technology amid a storm of criticism and confirmed that the first wave of Copilot+ PCs will now arrive without the service ready to go.

Instead, Recall will be delivered to members of the Windows Insider Program “in the coming weeks” before a preview is available for all Copilot+ PCs.

As for Windows 11 24H2 in the Windows Insider program, the original was a little unstable despite being in the Release Preview channel. Release Preview builds for Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 were also released last week on June 13. ®
