Melt Bar and Grilled has filed for bankruptcy

CLEVELAND (WJW) — After multiple years of downsizing, the gourmet sandwich chain Melt Bar and Grilled has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, according to court filings.

This comes after the company had shut down its Cedar Point location in May and previously closed locations in Dayton, Canton, Independence, Avon and Cleveland Heights.

Owner Matt Fish had previously said the pandemic had added to the local chain’s decision to scale back.

The bankruptcy was filed in federal court last Friday, with total liabilities between $1 million and $10 million, according to the filing. The company reportedly owes an estimated 100-199 creditors.

The original Melt location opened in 2006 in Lakewood.

FOX 8 reached out directly to the company for comment on the bankruptcy. It’s not yet clear what this means for the remaining Melt locations or its employees.
