Former U.S. Rep. George Santos asks judge to approve ‘weekly’ summer travel to Poconos

Former Congressman George Santos is seeking to visit the Poconos this summer.

The New York Republican, who briefly embarked on a bid to return to Congress as an independent, was expelled from the House in a bipartisan vote last year. He is facing federal charges including wire fraud and money laundering.

Currently, his travel is restricted to New York City, Long Island, Washington, D.C., and, with advance notice, other travel in the continental United States.

“Over the summer months, Mr. Santos intends to make regular visits to Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, which is located approximately 7 miles north of Mt. Pocono. Mr. Santos is currently permitted to travel to this location upon prior notice” to his pretrial services officer, wrote attorney Robert Fantone in a request for U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of New York Joanna Seybert to modify the conditions of Santos’s release.

“However, he expects to travel weekly to the Mt. Pocono area,” Fantone continued, and is seeking to go there without making weekly requests.

The request was first reported by Bloomberg.
