Mexico Awarded New Blue Flag Distinctions for Summer Travel Season

As travelers prepare to visit Mexico for summer vacation,
the country is now boasting 78 beaches, two marinas and 40 sustainable tourism
boats with the Blue Flag distinction.

According to the Riviera
Maya News, Mexican Secretary of Tourism Miguel Torruco Marques revealed
that 12 new Blue Flag distinctions have been awarded in the country for the 2024-2025
season, including a new Quintana Roo site.

Torruco Marques said that Mexico is the top Blue Flag
destination in North America and 10th worldwide. The distinction was designed
to raise awareness among tourists and residents about the relevance of
ecosystems and environmental education practices.

In addition to the Blue Flag destinations, Mexico also
offers more than 138 million hectares of forests and jungles, 905,000 hectares
of mangroves, 226 Protected Natural Areas, 193 archaeological zones open to the
public, 1,639 museums, 117,799 historical monuments, and 177 Magic Towns,
according to the Riviera Maya News.

Torruco Marques also revealed that Mexico is home to 35
UNESCO World Heritage sites and 10 cultural expressions designated Intangible
Heritage of Humanity, giving travelers from the United States and beyond plenty
of options when visiting.

Earlier this year, tourism
groups representing Mexico and the U.S. worked together for a sales mission
that included appointments with operators interested in promoting travel,
developing travel programs and training sessions for travel agencies.
