Jackson City Councilman says repairs are on the horizon for infrastructure needs in Ward 6

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jackson’s Ward 6 City Councilman is gathering a list of priority infrastructure issues to help keep your neighborhoods safer.

Thursday night, Councilman Aaron Banks held a town hall meeting at Glory Empowerment Church to hear many of your concerns.

Topping the list were roads in need of repair, broken and clogged drainage lines, and overhanging trees that are making some roadways hazardous.

“Tonight, I think it was clear that there are problems all over the place,” said Councilman Banks.

To ensure no complaints or concerns went unnoticed, Councilman Banks had members from IMS Engineers attend.

IMS is an engineering consultant based in Jackson that is often contracted for several jobs related to infrastructure and environmental needs.

“We wanted to get a list of priorities to give to the IMS Engineers so that it can make those assessments,” said Councilman Banks. “So, that we can see how the portion that can be allocated for Ward 6 will be used.”

The current sitting Jackson City Council President says funds for any future projects will come from part of the $10 million Internet tax granted to the city.

“We come back to the table, and then we say this is what we need,” he said.

He says the list that IMS compiled at the meeting will be reviewed and the firm will make necessary assessments of each area.

Once a solidified list of priorities is complete, proposals will be taken to the City Council for funding approval.
