Trump sends legal letter to block release of ‘Apprentice’ film

Former President Trump sent a cease and desist letter to filmmakers shopping a movie about his early career.

The film, called “The Apprentice,” focuses on Trump’s rise to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s and on his relationship with Roy Cohn, the notorious mob-connected New York lawyer who worked with Trump before Cohn’s 1986 death.

“The film is a fair and balanced portrait of the former president,” the producers of the film said in a statement to Variety, which first reported the cease and desist letter. “We want everyone to see it and then decide.”

“The Apprentice,” directed by Iranian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi, debuted at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday and depicts a scene in which Trump violently rapes his late ex-wife, Ivana. Trump has denied the allegation he assaulted his wife.

Ivana Trump, who died in July 2022, alleged in a 1989 divorce deposition that Donald Trump had sexually assaulted her — a claim she later retracted.

“We will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told The Post. “This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked.”
