Cody Rhodes’ WWE title story continues

The main event of today’s (Sat., May 25, 2024) WWE King & Queen of the Ring premium live event at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia saw Logan Paul challenge Cody Rhodes for the WWE championship in the former’s second shot at the crown which, coincidentally, was also the latter’s second defense of the title.

It seemed obvious going in that Rhodes would win, retaining his title, but Paul, because of the angle they ran changing the contract for the match, would get to move on while keeping his United States championship. This was simply a showcase match, so to speak.

The main story, of course, was whether or not Paul would use brass knuckles, something he claimed he wouldn’t do. When he did, Michael Cole called him out for it, calling him a loser to his face, leading to a brief altercation at ringside between the two.

The knucks did nothing to give him the edge in the match, either, but he held up pretty well and Cole even ended up putting him over for how talented he really is at this.

When the action spilled outside, the referee was going to count them out. Cody got back in the ring but Logan remained on the floor, so Rhodes stopped the referee at nine and told him outright “he needs to learn.”

They did a referee bump to try to help create some doubt but before Paul could use the brass knuckles, he was held back by special guest ring announcer Ibrahim Al Hajjaj, giving Rhodes the opening he needed to finish the match with three Cross Rhodes to retain his title.
