You Can Now Get a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger from Wendy’s for Just a Penny

Fast food chains are battling to get customers back in their doors with new menu items and new value meals. McDonald’s and Burger King are both launching a new $5 menu. And Wendy’s has a new discounted breakfast meal that lets you score a small seasoned potatoes and a bacon or sausage sandwich for just $3. None of those deals, however, hold a candle — or should we say ketchup packet — to Wendy’s Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger deal next week. Starting May 28th customers will be able to snag one of the iconic burgers for just a penny. Yes, literally 1 cent (and that’s no typo).

In honor of National Hamburger Day, you’ll be able to get a beef patty, applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo at Wendy’s all for an amount of cash you’re likely to find wedged between your car seats.

As you might imagine, the bargain comes with a few caveats. First, you’ll need to have the Wendy’s app or use its website in order to secure the deal, which will be available online only.  Using the app requires you to sign up, which requires you to give Wendy’s a small bit of personal information like your name and email address.

You’re also only able to take advantage of the deal once, so if you had dreams of enhancing your water cooler popularity by snagging 100 burgers for the office for a buck, think again. Each customer is entitled to just one of the super-discounted burgers during the promotional period, which runs from May 28th to June 2. You also can’t combine the deal with any other you might have, so you’ll have to save that free Frosty coupon for another time.

If penny Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers sounds familiar, it’s because this isn’t the first time Wendy’s has offered the promotion, although it’s the first time it’s offered it in conjunction with National Hamburger Day. For National Cheeseburger Day last fall, Wendy’s also offered the menu staple for 1 cent. Similar to the hamburger day promotion, Wendy’s offered the deal for four days and required customers to make their purchases through the Wendy’s app or website. Wendy’s also offered the same deal in May of last year to celebrate National Hamburger Month.

Speaking of hamburgers, next week is also a huge one for Burger King. The chain is celebrating not only National Hamburger Day, but also its 70th anniversary. On May 28th rewards members can secure a free hamburger with a purchase of 70 cents or more. The restaurant plans to keep the celebration going all week with a new freebie each day until June 3. On June 1, the company’s official birthday, that deal involves a free slice of what else? Birthday Pie, which has a cookie crumb crust and is filled with birthday cake-flavored filling.
