Xavi offers fresh update on his future after Barcelona’s win over Rayo Vallecano
Xavi Hernandez was asked about his future at Barcelona yet again after the team’s 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
The Barcelona coach insisted he has no news on the situation but is expecting to meet with president Joan Laporta soon for talks.
“The message is the same. If I have any news to give, I would be happy to give it to you. The situation is the same. I imagine that the president and I will see each other tomorrow or the day after tomorrow or the next,” he said.
Xavi also spoke about some of the chants that were heard at Montjuic. Fans were heard singing “Xavi yes, Laporta no” but the boss has called for unity.
“I don’t like it when they whistle or sing for or against someone linked to the club. It’s an unpleasant situation. Grateful to the fans in my person because they have always held me in esteem. Grateful and excited for today.
“I’m not looking for division, I’m looking for unity and consensus. I’m a family and group person. I didn’t like those chants against the president. I hope we can redirect that situation.”
“We all have to be united. We said that three weeks ago. The project, the ambition, the hope… mine has not changed. No matter how much people write or speak out in the press. I want to start next season thinking that things can be done well.”
Speculation persists that Laporta is determined to have a new coach in place for next season and wants to fire Xavi. The two do now look set to meet for crunch talks in the coming days when the situation may become clearer.
