US Department of Labor awards up to $13.9M to fund pilot programs to deliver info-technology skills, training, job services to Job Corps students
Programs will support services at 9 Job Corps centers in Atlanta, San Francisco regions
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of up to $3.9 million in funding to Management and Training Corp. and up to $9.9 million to the Net America Corp. to support demonstration projects that provide information technology training and employment services to students at Job Corps centers in the Atlanta and San Francisco regions.
Managed by the department’s Employment and Training Administration, the two Job Corps Information Technology Academy demonstration projects will enable recipients to test new approaches for Job Corps IT-focused training and employment services. Award recipients will begin training this summer and provide students with 48 months of career technical training and up to 12 months of employment counseling after separation from the academy at nine Job Corps centers.
“Industry-aligned partnerships, in-demand education and training and clear pathways to good jobs are just some of the reasons the Job Corps program continues to be an important investment in our nation’s young people,” said Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training José Javier Rodríguez. “This new investment in nimbler, more industry-responsive IT training curricula will help America’s young people launch their careers with a leg up, building economic security for themselves and their families.”
Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the funding enables recipients to provide students expanded career and technical training, career counseling, supportive services and relevant work-based learning opportunities that lead to industry-recognized credentials and prepare students for a career pathway toward high-growth and in-demand occupations.
Based in Centerville, Utah, MTC is the nation’s leading operator of federal Job Corps centers with 19 centers nationwide, including five partner centers, and trains nearly 7,000 students daily.
