Starting Pitcher Streamer Rankings Fantasy Baseball: 7/5 & 7/6 | Pitcher List

Here are today and tomorrow’s daily SP Streamer rankings for fantasy baseball.

Every day of the 2024 baseball season, I’ll be looking at today and tomorrow’s slate of scheduled starting pitchers and ranking their matchups for your fantasy baseball streams.

There’s a lot that goes into this and you can hang out with me on Playback.tv/pitcherlist to talk about the specific ranks as I make them every weekday morning from 10am – 12pm ET. If you have questions about these ranks, please ask during the morning Playback AMA. Those are my office hours as I generally don’t answer comments on the site.

There are four tiers to these rankings with 12-teamers in mind:

Auto-Start – Just do it. Don’t overthink this, start the man. This includes “if I have them rostered, I’m starting them” pitchers.

Probably StartI’m likely starting these arms, though I recognize there is more risk than we’d like there to be. Either it’s a tough matchup for a good-not-elite pitcher or a weak lineup for a volatile arm. These pitchers have a 50% or greater chance of performing well in my view and I’m starting them in the majority of situations.

Questionable Start – Think of this tier as “I don’t want to start these pitchers in a vacuum, but you could do worse.” Streamers found in this tier are not pitchers I’m targeting and are only if you are in dire need of one. To play it safe with streaming, just start the Probably Start streamers.

Do Not Start – The reward is not worth the risk. Don’t do it. Seriously, these pitchers have a very slim chance of success or sometimes none at all.

Obviously, there will be circumstances where pitchers should move between teams for your situation specifically and these new tiers should act as a little more help than the straight table from last year.

Please keep in mind that streaming is far from a perfect play. In fact, if they work out over half the time, I’d consider it a success. These matchup rankings & streamer picks are going to be wildly different than the actual results throughout the year, so please, have sympathy before the scathing comments and tweets. I’m only trying to help!

Make sure to read the notes if you’re wondering why I’m favoring certain pitchers over others – I won’t get to everyone and hopefully I answer what questions you will have.

There is a second table for tomorrow’s starting pitcher matchups as well, helping everyone get a jump on their nightly pickups. Please note that these matchups are subject to change, though, and there will be times when I have the incorrect pitcher going. I thank you for your future understanding.

Finally, there are my streaming picks of the day, and please keep in mind that I am forced to pick a streamer every day. Those highlighted in Green are that day’s streaming pick in the second tier and I’d roll with them everywhere. Those in Yellow are in the third tier and should be okay if you’re searching for something on a given day, but I don’t recommend streaming unless you’re in need. Finally, those are Red are those I really don’t want to start (they are labeled as “Do Not Start”, after all) but have no other choice. Don’t stream these guys until you are truly desperate. A streaming pick is defined as “rostered in 20% or fewer leagues according to Fantasy Pros. This really emphasizes the point that I’d be happy if over 50% of these worked. I could do the whole sub 30/40% rostered, but there’s no fun in that. You can use the rankings to realize who those picks would be instead.

(Opener) – Outlines that a pitcher is being opened for that day & the pitcher listed will follow the opener.

As I do my rankings, I thought it would be helpful to showcase a table of how we’re ranking offenses (in alphabetical order by tier):

Nick’s Loose Team Offense Rankings (Updated 7/1)

I’m sure it’ll change through the year + there are differences to be made about teams vs. LHP or RHP, but it works as a general table that y’all should keep in mind.

Alright, let’s get to it.

To spice up these streaming recommendations, I’ve included our new daily fantasy baseball projections powered by PLV, and I’ll be competing against PL Bot to pick the best streaming option each day.

These projections are different from your typical projections as they incorporate our pitch quantifier, assessing pitcher and hitter skills at a much more granular level than your standard box score.

The streaming record is determined by “Was this a productive game for 12-teamers if I started them?” Roughly a PQS with a Win and a strikeout per inning with a sub 1.20 WHIP, with a minimum of 5 IP. Close calls are decided by Playback chat.

Nick’s 2024 Streamer Record: 55-41

Today’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Auto Starts

UPDATE: Tyler Glasnow vs. MIL – Aces gonna ace.

Max Fried vs. PHI – Aces gonna ace.

Paul Skenes vs. NYM – Aces gonna ace.

Cole Ragans @ COL – Aces gonna ace.

Aaron Nola @ ATL – Aces gonna ace.

Sonny Gray @ WSN – Aces gonna ace.

Luis Castillo vs. TOR – Aces gonna ace.

Tanner Bibee vs. SFG – The addition of the curveball has worked wonders for Bibee and you’re not putting him on the bench for this.

Justin Steele vs. LAA – Steele is in a groove and gets the Angels.

Tanner Houck @ NYY – It’s a test for Houck as he clings to his AGA tag. Let’s hope he rebounds.

Pablo López vs. HOU – López is on the path to redemption and gets a proper test after two strong opponents. The improved changeup and sweeper give me confidence.

Probably Starts

Kevin Gausman @ SEA – Gausman is a Cherry Bomb as long as his splitter isn’t the whiff pitch of old.

Freddy Peralta @ LAD – Peralta gets the Dodgers and hopes his recent command sticks.

Reese Olson @ CIN – Olson is a solid Holly and I’m not afraid of Cin City.

Nestor Cortes vs. BOS – The Red Sox aren’t too scary to bench Cortes.

Luis Severino @ PIT – Now we get into the “Oh hey, that’s a great matchup!” section of Tier 2. Severino has been able to go six constantly and it’s the Pirates.

Albert Suárez @ OAK – This is a strong Win chance with potential for at least a strikeout per inning.

Drew Thorpe @ MIA – As long as he has his changeup, Thorpe should have a cushy day at the park.

Michael Lorenzen vs. TBR – Lorenzen isn’t anything special, but he does take advantage of middling offenses.

Carson Spiers vs. DET – Spiers’ command is good enough to be an option against the Tigers. Not the biggest upside here.

Questionable Starts

Shane Baz @ TEX – FINALLY. We’ve waited TWO YEARS for Baz to return and here’s to hoping he has made enough gains with his four-seamer during his rehab to come close to replicating its dominance in 2021.

Walker Buehler vs. MIL – Buehler is returning from the IL and all we can do is hope that his approach is better than last time we saw him. I’d play it safe.

Griffin Canning @ CHC – Feel free to stream Canning instead of Baz or Buehler, though the pair feature more long-term ceiling (and short-term if everything goes right!). Canning’s changeup feels is solid at the moment and the Cubs aren’t scary.

Roddery Muñoz vs. CHW – There’s a chance Muñoz is able to command the edges well and take full advantage of this matchup.

Do Not Starts

Shawn Dubin @ MIN – The fastball/cutter/breakers isn’t the worst thing with his heater around 94/95 mph and at least Royce isn’t in the lineup.

Kyle Harrison @ CLE – I’m not a fan of Harrison and it’s a HR heavy park.

Hogan Harris vs. BAL – It’s the Orioles and Harris doesn’t have his best arsenal at the moment.

Slade Cecconi @ SDP – He has a high CSW at times, but hot dang does his stuff not excite me.

Randy Vasquez vs. ARI – There’s a chance Randy can find the sixth. At least he has that going for him.

UPDATE: Spencer Bivens @ CLE – It’s possible he makes it work and it’s not worth the risk

UPDATE: Aaron Civale @ LAD – It’s his first start since being dealt and it’s the Dodgers. No thanks.

Kyle Freeland vs. KCR – He just had a good start against the CrySox away from Coors…Not a chance.

Patrick Corbin vs. STL – Corbin is experimenting with the BSB or going cutter/slider heavy. At least he’s trying!

UPDATE: Bryan Hoeing vs. CHW – Looks like Hoeing is getting the pearl after coming off the IL. Maybe Muñoz follows?

Tomorrow’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

Auto Starts

Garrett Crochet @ MIA – Aces gonna ace.

Gerrit Cole vs. BOS – Aces gonna ace.

Joe Ryan vs. HOU – Aces gonna ace.

Seth Lugo @ COL – Lugo is too good to bench.

MacKenzie Gore vs. STL – Gore looked like a stud against the Mets.

Taj Bradley @ TEX – The splitter and four-seamer combo is working.

Hunter Greene vs. DET – It’s Detroit and you can’t say no to the strikeouts.

Probably Starts

Freddy Peralta @ LAD – Peralta gets the Dodgers and hopes his recent command sticks.

Ranger Suárez @ ATL – He’s looked far worse in his last two.

Hunter Brown @ MIN – Brown has been on an absolute heater.

Cade Povich @ OAK – Now we have the streaming options and Povich leads the way. Good Win chance, solid ratios, weak lineup = Stream of the Day.

Tyler Anderson @ CHC – His changeup has been consistently great all year.

Andrew Heaney vs. TBR – The slider was fantastic last time out.

Brandon Pfaadt @ SDP – I hope his curveball returns for another game.

Matt Waldron vs. ARI – Let’s hope the knuckler comes back + he can survive without it at times.

Questionable Starts

Spencer Schwellenbach vs. PHI – It’s a weaker Phillies lineup and I’m tempted to slot Mr. Crescendo into the second tier. That said, he hasn’t put it all together quite yet.

Yariel Rodríguez @ SEA – He just had a full outing and it’s the Mariners.

David Peterson @ PIT – Peterson hasn’t flashed elite ability, but it’s the Pirates.

Yonny Chirinos vs. CHW – Chirinos can go Dancing With The Disco and make it work against the White Sox.

Do Not Starts

Kyle Harrison @ CLE – I’m not a fan of Harrison and it’s a HR heavy park.

Logan Allen vs. SFG – I just can’t trust Allen anymore.

Bailey Falter vs. NYM – He sometimes makes it work, but the ceiling isn’t high enough to chase.

James Paxton vs. MIL – He just imploded.

Kyle Hendricks vs. LAA – Hendricks’ curveball is back and yet it didn’t save him last time out.

Lance Lynn @ WSN – You add two Ls, you get one more. (He has been good in his last two, I wouldn’t push it.)

Matt Manning? @ CIN – If it’s Manning, it’s a clear wait and see.

Josh Winckowski @ NYY – He pulled it off last time out, I wouldn’t push your luck.

Luis Medina vs. BAL – He’s a Cherry Bomb at best against a legitimate offense.

Jhonathan Díaz vs. TOR – Naaaaaah.

Austin Gomber vs. KCR – Absolutely not.
