4-star DL Kalen Edwards commits to Kentucky

How about some more fireworks ahead of July 4th for Kentucky football? Just days removed from locking up the top-ranked player in the state in Javeon Campbell, Mark Stoops and the Wildcats have added yet another big-time commitment in Kalen Edwards.

Listed as the No. 320 overall prospect and No. 25 defensive lineman nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, Edwards made a surprise commitment to Kentucky over Auburn and Louisville, among other offers.

“First off I want to thank the man above. Without him none of this would be possible,” the four-star prospect announced on social media. “I want to thank my mother for being in my corner throughout the ups and downs. I want to thank all my coaches and family and friends and people who was there up until this point of my life. With that being said, for the next 3 to 4 years I will be taking my talents to the University of Kentucky.”

The 6-4, 325-pound lineman out of Dyersburg, TN took official visits to Kentucky, Auburn, Memphis and Louisville in June before choosing the Wildcats to open July.

UK now owns the No. 20 recruiting class in the nation and No. 10 in the SEC, a group featuring Edwards, four-star EDGE Cedric Works, four-star DL Javeon Campbell, four-star RB Marquise Davis, four-star S Martels Carter, four-star WR Quintin Simmons, four-star OT Darrin Strey, three-star WR Ja’Kayden Ferguson, three-star CB Andrew Purcell, three-star QBs Stone Saunders and Brennen Ward, three-star ATH Demarcus Gardner, three-star OL Tucker Kattus, three-star OT Bryan Auguste, three-star EDGE Nicholas Smith and three-star WR Preston Bowman.

Who’s next for the Wildcats? We may not have to wait long to find out.
